My 6950 is being very odd this evening.

Its unlocked and overclocked to 950/1400 with +20% in CCC Power Control.

Earlier it did this:

Now its doing this:

What's going on? I realise the increase in Min. FPS is because I wasn't running through Heaven once before taking a bench but why the massive decrease in Max.FPS????

Did you overclock using AMD Catalyst Control Centre? If you restarted between benchmarks and you didnt have the CCC to run automatically on start-up you will be back to default clock speeds.

Even then I still think 45.2 is low. Did you have any background programs running?

No nothing running in the background and I overclocked using Afterburner and I checked the clocks before running each benchmark.

I don't have a clue. I notice you upgraded your CPU to a 2500k however that SURELY shouldn't change the results that dramatically - especially an fps drop.

Exactly. Both benchmarks were taken with the same settings about 3 hours apart so god knows what has happened. I haven't restarted, I haven't changed anything in CCC or Afterburner. I watched a Divx film and had a Skype conversation inbetween but I made sure both were definately closed. I have since restarted and checked settings again and its still running about 40-45 Avg.FPS

I found 1400 mem was too much for prolonged use.

Did you use a 6970 bios or did you modify yours to unlock shaders?

I have the same prob with the memory on my 6950 flashed to 6970. The memory doesn't like to run at anything other than stock, could manage a small overclock but it doesn't really make a difference, so I run the vram speed at stock

yeah I've been finding this this morning anything other than stock vram starts to give gives crashes on the 3rd Heaven run and the increase in fps is minimal. On the other hand with stock vram I can't get over 900 core clock without a crash in the first Heaven run.

Just doesn't sound like a stable overclock to me...

Is everyone running 6970 bios on their cards?
I just run mine with the modded 6950 one, I didn't want my memory timings to be changed.

No its not that its just I am curious as to the difference between the 6970 and modded 6950 bios that means that I can't clock as high as I could.

I'm glad that I've switched now. Nobody likes the thought that their GPU could go pop!
