simple question, i simply cannot decide whether the cheaper 560ti is better than the 6950... need pointers.

Well aware of the figures via AAT, but thats not "real world" (tho who doesnt like a good bench fiure:))

will having 4gb mem make a huge difference over 2gb if going SLI / XF etc ?

It is tough between them two cards, not much to chose apart from the 6950's 2GB of VRAM. This will help you in games such as BF3.

Though, you can get a GTX 560ti 2GB for under £200.

I'd be tempted to go for this. Unless you are planning on going SLI/Xfire Very soon. Then 2 x 1GB cards will suffice.

You might have 4gb in total if you go sli / crossfire, but each gpu needs to render a frame in its own memory, so 2gb will be the total amount useable to the game :

Card 1 with 2gb renders frame 1, card 2 with 2gb renders frame 2, etc...

As to which card to go for, well, I'd suggest a 2gb card if you're running at 1920x1080 for longevity / future proofing reasons.

Best thing to do is check the reviews for each card, as the 6950 is quicker in some titles and the 560 Ti is quicker in others, so it comes down to what games you play really.

If people don't use MSAA on BF3 (or any Frostbite2 game engine titles) the 6950 would be around the same/little bit faster than the GTX560Ti. However, if using MSAA on BF3, the 6950 (actually all the 69xx and 79xx cards) will suffer huge performance hit which can make them slower than the competition. According to reviewers, it is something to do with the 69xx and 79xx cards' MSAA don't work well with the Frostbite2 engine, and loses way more performance (the fps taking a hard hit) than it should. And considering that EA is set to push large number of new titles to use the Frostbite 2 engine, I would take that into consideration deciding between the GTX560Ti and 6950.

Last week, I helped a friend bagged a MSI GTX560Ti Twin FrozrII OC 2GB with free BF3 game for just £191.99...that was an absolute bargain.

yeah running at 1080p

just reading the other 560ti thread which popped up re: SLI and VRAM etc

therefore it seems the VRAM on the 6950 will be better on games which use it (BF3 etc).

question - is there a 2gb 560ti anywhere (dont link a competitor , rules etc) as ive yet to find one whilst browsing around :S

Any 2Gb, get the cheapest team green if that's your preference or the red sqauad if you like them better.

Right now if it was my choice, I would be going team green for the physX just for the Candi of course.

That's what you call a friend!:D

2GB 560ti would be awesome if you're going SLI down the road. If you can get a 1GB Ti for less than £160 that would be your best bet though, at least as far as price/performance goes.
