Just in the middle of a new build and trying to find a new PSU but before i do that im trying to find out the draw from 1 6950/6970.

What im thinking for example.
Would it be better to buy two 800watt PSUs or one big crumper?

This is the list so far:
SB or BD Will have a massive OC no matter what i go for time will tell.
MIVE Mobo or BD equ.
4 6950s flashed
Going to use the Ram i have with the new build as its the cas 8 2000mhz dom stuff.

Please before it starts with why do you need 4 cards. Its cos i do. PLEASE lets not start that crap.

Running two flashed in CrossfireX (see sig for rest) Crysis Warhead 501W at the wall, Furmark about 561W, again, at the wall! Hope this helps!

1200W is not enough guys. He'll have to go with a 1500W unit.

One PS or two, I suppose is personal choice. If you have room for two in your case I would probably go with two.

If you are unlocking them, figure 6970 use. NOT overclocked you can figure ~200W each with Powertune at 0%, The Powertune at 20% over would put you too ~250W each. Overvolted (past 1.175V) and overclocked (past 880) I could see close to 300W each. I have seen tests of 6970 pulling 337W.

So even at 250W each you can see that 1200W won't do it.

Of your two choices, I think you are going to have no choice but go 2x800W units.

If you want a single PSU you'll need a 1500W unit:

http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/psus/2008/04/16/thermaltake_toughpower_1500w_w0171_psu/1

See above mate mine are running at 900/1375, I only need 1.125V to achieve this! Powertune is at 20% both cards, my whole system draws 561W during Furmark and 501W during Crysis warhead, enthuiast settings with the POM/AF and Hi res texture packs installed! This is probably the most GPU demanding game out there! So my PSU has an 87% efficiency, so it's delivering 488W for Furmark, and 435W for Crysis!

Thanks for the heads up. Think it will be better if i go with two 900s will cost less than a 1500+ cos i think tbh thats what i will need.

2 draw 500+ So thats a KW+..

i think 4 6950's will be rubbish and a waste of money as quad fire is iffey to say the least and 6990+6950 tri fire would be a much better option. just google and find the benchmarks and you will see what im talking about

This mate will be the FIRST and ONLY post about why 4 cards!

Dont have time to look all over HWbot but found this
4x 6970s GPU score 60564
6970s
2x6990s GPU score 59958
6990s

So if 4x 6970s can beat 2x6990s.Whats the point in trifire.
I can find you a a graph on the net that will prove the moon is made of cheese but it doesnt make it true.

The only place to look is HW.

Again please this is about PSUs not "why should you get 1,2,3,4,10 GPUs

The best 1200w PSUs are out of stock the moment. But that is what you need. None of this 1500w+ gubbins.

Agreed, 4 GPUs is stupidity....in fact performance will probably be worse than 3 GPUs in the majority of stuff.

Thanks for the links guys i have ordered a 1000W one today.
That will run 3 cards and my 850 will run the board and the 4th.

Probably? Take it thats a guess ?

You worry about your rig before looking at others! (5850:D )

What did i say in the VERY FIRST POST?

it's not rocket science

You cant ask nothing on this forum without some one sticking there oar in !

Did the post start with "what do you think about tri or quad fire?" NO! so why say anything about it.

Phase,

I wouldn't buy anything that is not Seasonic personally so if you could wait I would buy the Seasonic 1000W Platinum that is coming out soon. If you can't wait I suppose either the Antec HCP 1200W or the Corsair AX1200 will do.
