6950 to 7970

What games is your current card struggling with and what res do you play at?

edit - beaten.. I would say it's a massive outlay for a small gain at 1920. If buying new or coming from a much older gen than it might be worth it but i would wait a few months to see not only wht the new cards have to offer but what effect it has on pricing down stream :)

Hi Guys would I see any real improvement from my current HIS 1GB to one of these babies http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-144-MS&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=938

Would you recommend me waiting for the new Nvidia cards or just take the plunge now and buy this? :D

If you have £450 for a video card upgrade then there's nothing better on the market then 7970 for that kind of cash. God knows when Nvidia will be launching it's 28nm cards but provided there are no hicups when they do I would expect the 7970 to come down in price quite rapidly settling at around the £300-£350 mark.

If I were you and if you PSU can handle it I would look at getting another 6950 and going crossfire.

what settings ?

run on high without msaa on you should get 60 solid (just remember ultra really is for two cards tbh)

£300-£350, highly unlikely. The 580s have been a consistent price since release, as per a review the price was £399. I've seen a 580 at 350 now. Not much reduction certainly not £100 off in next few months or ever.

Ultra 4aa

At 1080p and this setting my HD7970 overclocked to 1125/6600 manages 58.8FPS in BF3 (minimum 40fps).

Whilst this is a noticeable improvement over my old HD6970 (achieved roughly 40fps average) it still isn't worth the outlay. I run 3560x1920 where it most certainly is worth the outlay.

Just drop MSAA altogether (and run Post AA) or lower your settings to high. The HD69xx series are crippled by MSAA in BF3 so that is most likely the setting causing your lower than preferred average frame rate.
