6950 vs 5870

Well my 4870 has finally snuffed it, so it's new card time.

Both these cards are can be found for just shy of £200 and wondering which to get. In benchmarks I've seen the 5870 has the slight edge, but I'm wondering if that will change with new drivers.

Also will both cards be able to run two DVI screen and an HDMI monitor at the same time?

Actually the HD6950 has the edge in newer games as it has improved tessellation performance. If you can get an HD6950 2GB you may be able to unlock it to an HD6970 2GB. The newer HD6950 2GB cards will probably have this ability disable in many cases.

There is also the HD6950 1GB for around £200 but this cannot be unlocked AFAIK.

That's interesting to know for when I buy newer games. Sadly the budget won't stretch to the 2GB model, but I only game at 1680x1050 anyway.

The 5870 is a great card for £200 & the 560 at £200 looks to be just as good, if not better.

Plus, ATi are due to be releasing a 1GB 6950 very soon, which as CAT said, is going to come in around £200 as well.

That might lower the pricing on the 5870 & 6870. Just need to wait and see.

Hmmm....A close call again. Looks like the 560 is also slightly pricier, whereas I've already seen 1gb 6950s for £190 on the net.

I've also a slight AMD bias as my next mb/cpu will probably be from them and there will be a better selection of crossfire motherboards over sli on amd chipsets.
