6970 + 6950 trifire

Was orginally going with 2 6950s as I could buy a 6970 for 210 was thinking if I should go for the 6970 and is the setup exactly the same as two 6950s would be and will a corsair tx 650w power an6970 and 6950

Hi, for a pair of 6950 or 6970 you should be looking at a psu of around 850w.
I am running a pair of flashed 6950's and the total draw on the psu for my system is just over 700w.

Total waste of money.

There is absolutely no point in getting a 2Gb 6970 to xfire with a 1Gb 6950, just get another 1Gb 6950 as that's what the 6970 would run at in xfire.

just save the £200 burning a whole in your pocket for a few more months until the new cards are out, in the mean while get a new psu if you must spend something.

I agree with fowler, it would make more sense to upgrade your psu before getting another card.

I think the OP is confused.

He's talking about a HD 6970 and a HD 6950 or 2 HD 6950's.

That ain't Tri-Fire.

You do realise if you xFire a 6950 1Gb and a 6970 2Gb you will be instantly losing the additional VRAM of the 6970 and it will run as if only a 1Gb card, Im not sure but it might even get clocked back to match the 6950 speeds

if he uses MSI AB he can set them to whatever he want

nope..

thats SLI...

e.g i can use MSI AB to clock my 6950 to lets say 880 and my 6990 to 920 and cf still works. but one card would have more usage than the other. but if they all at 100% usage you'll see more slow down by running them at different clocks
