Yeah, I wouldn't be buying a 5970 new now, new in a couple months at EOL prices, or second hand as people move up to a 6870/6970.

Supposedly the telling us about the product date is Oct 12th, 25th for stock though its not known what cards. Sounds like maybe 25th for the 6770's, 2weeks later for the 6870/6850, I'd personally expect the 6970 to be another 2-4weeks after 6870 stock reaches shelves, but you never know it might all come at the same time. In terms of PCB/cooling, they'll all but slot right into the existing designs so shouldn't take them long to get the 6970 sorted out.

Have you not considered a GTX480, im sure you would get some impressive clocks at sub ambient temps

6*** series are on 40nm and should hit this year, 28nm will be the 7*** series with a whole new architecture, they should hit third quarter 2011.
