I have a 5850 atm and need the upgrade for eyefinity. Should i go for a 6970 and maybe crossfire in the future. Or wait for the 7000 series?

Wait. The price of the 6 series cards is insane this close to next gen launch (they actually seem to be going up). They say it's down to low stock of cards but this just tells me that production is winding down/stopped because they are making the 7 series already.

I'll be buying the MSI 7970 variant I think, as soon as it hits, or maybe a few 7870s to xfire. Depends on pricing really.

In a similar position myself where looking at getting a decent rig set up but going to wait now for the new cards. Is the 7000 series worth considering when the geforce 6xx series is coming out too?

WAIT!

I can't even play games now as I sold my 6950 while it's still worth something and stuck my old 5450 in

Can't wait to play MW3 and all the new games which are out. Just sat here watching youtube videos saying 'hurry up 7000 series'

Most likely going to go crossfire 7870, then if the 7970 are WAY better I'll sell the two 7870s and buy one 7970 and put the difference away till I can afford another one. That way I can play games before christmas :D

Plus I do that, I can always using the crossfire 7870 till both 7970 and GTX670/680 are out then properly make my mind up

I have been without a graphics card since April ( my 6850 napalmed itself) and I will be getting a 7850.

What are the chances a game or two will be thrown in as with many cards here or does that only occur with older generation cards?

On a good note as I was left with my integrated i3-530 GPU I ended up playing older games and enjoyed them as much as any other (if not more). Star Wars Jedi Outcast was fantastic, really hard and I still haven't completed it!

Worth noting that the 79xx series has tech that the rest of the 7xxx series does not have, much like the 69xx series now. I have a feeling that the bulk of the 7 series will just be a dye shrink with maybe 15% gain or so over current hardware. The 79xx however, you could be looking at performance levels of 150% and above over current 69xx series counterparts.

It's of little difference to me I guess.. I'm upgrading from a 3870 here.. lol

Sounds good to me

If the 7870s are a direct replacement for the 6970 with maybe an extra 15% performance...and a price drop, a crossfire setup will be mighty impressive for the money. Plus they run cooler and use less power.

Like I said, if the 79xx are THAT much better I'll sell and upgrade (although maybe not before nvidias offerings so I can weight up all the pros and cons)
