Hi guys,

My 6970 has recently started reading very high temperatures but I've got a suspicion that they aren't correct, it's reading 103 degrees after playing Skyrim!

The reason I don't believe it to be correct is because the heatpips on the cooler are warm but not nearly what I'd class as hot.

Is it possible to get false readings?

To avoid any confusion my case is a Fractal Design Define R2 case, it's fully kitted out with fans.

2x 120mm front intakes
1x 140mm side intake
1x 140mm bottom intake
1x 120mm rear exhaust
2x 140mm roof exhausts

The graphics card has a Zalman VF3000A fitted to it.

perhaps contact the etailer if it is free of dust , they can be funny if you re-apply the thermal material .
103c is to high for a 6970 i was told by powercolor when i had temp problems

Hmmm, Furmark showing 46 degrees, afterburner showing 100+, IR Thermometer showing 45ish

Temps taken on top of the core of the card and also at the point where the block meets the die.

GPUZ is showing the same as CCC/MSI Afterburner, the IR thermometer reading and lack of heat in the card/heatpipes lead me to believe theres a temp sensor error.

If you said other apps agree and IR temp probe and mk1 finger don't, I think you are right....still, reseat the Cooler for peace of mind ;)

Just as an update to this, Skyrim seems to be the only game which is causing these high temps, Fifa 12 makes the graphics card hit a whopping 70 degrees and NFS The Run it hits 76.

Not sure what's going on temps wise when Skyrim is running.
