Just wondered if its worth making a jump to a 7970 from a 6970. Playing most new titles released in 2460x1440 or on TV at 1080p.

Would go for an Nvidia 680 but need a card with a mini-displayport for my iMac screen

Yes it would be a worthwhile upgrade, at least 25% performance increase in games, could be up to 50% in certain titles.

How much of an increase did you see? Thinking of doing this but might just wait for the 8xxx series.

at the time i had eyefinity and the single 7970 was slightly faster than the 6970 xfire and smoother gameplay proberly due to the 3gb af ram, im now on a 1080p 120hz monitor and the 7970 handles everything fine and so far im not tempted to crossfire it allthough i still get the urge due to upgrade addiction

No. Not due to the VRAM. Unless you were VRAM limited due to modding Skyrim.
