Hi all

I'm finding it difficult to find comparisons between mobile GPUs and desktop GPUs (has anyone got a good source for this?).

Does anyone know how a 6970M would compare to a desktop 5850?

Many thanks

M.

I'm quite sure it would beat the 5850 by a fair margin, The Mobile versions are only 5% to 10% slower then the desktop cards.

It looks like its basicaly a 6850 desktop card, 960 Barts style shaders, but with lower clocks. Not sure if they would overclock and how well, how much power and if the heat would get too high but the cores should clearly go a lot faster if pushed. Depends how well the cooling is designed on the laptop tbh.

Thats not in any way a bad level of performance for a laptop, its probably a good mix of power/heat/battery and performance as something along the lines of a 570m/580m or a 6990m will just run hot, be expensive and not be that far ahead in performance to make it worthwhile.

Laptop graphics cards are really not worth OC'ng as there is a lot of heat and power involved. Also, the laptop can struggle to cool the GPU effectively
