6970's make gaming unplayable

With 3D mark 11 installed everything has changed.

1. With 1 x 5870 installed (stock) P3900
2. With 1 x 6970 installed (stock) P4747
3. With 2 x 6970 installed (stock) P6828
4. With 2 x 6970 installed (950/1375) P6942

These scores seem normal. So why does Unique run like a ig with a foot missing?

For those of you that are interested, everything is sorted now. Both 6970's are working normally and as some of you have already suggested my CPU is the bottleneck of doom. Although my 3D score os above what is expected my Physics score is bad. RAGE now reinstalled is playable but can be a slow. I am not going to play it until I can replace the PC. I would however be interested to know who thinks I should sell both 6970s and upgrade my mobo etc, or keep the cards and wait until I can afford to swap the mobo out. I never buy GFX cards brand new as the depreciate so much it makes sense to buy second hand. With Ivy Bridge just round the corner Christmas seems like a good time for move up in the world.

if money is tight, could keep both 6970's and pick up a second hand i7 920,mobo and ram,or if money is even tighter than that then sell one 6970 and buy second hand x58 setup and should come out with a decent gaming pc and no money spent
 
I think I may have decided what to do, but then again.........:(

I am planning to sell the 2 x 6970's, my E8600, my Corsair Dominator RAM, P5Q Deluxe, Thermaltake Extreme 120 with Apache 120mm, my Enermax 720w and some other stuff and then go and purchase an 2600k bundle (I want to end up with high end crossfire/sli)

Or sell one of my 6970's, my 5870, the mobo, the ram, the cpu, the psu and the cooler and get a 2500k bundle.

or sell everything and start over. The problem there is that I will have nothing until I can accumulate the cash to get what a really want.
