6990 and GTA4 (steam version) issue

Don`t quite believe that somehow.
A good mark in the benchmark is well known for being nothing like it is in the actual game.
I have seen gta at better settings on a pc far far more powerfull than yours and still on 45-60fps.
All this you say was on a dual core cpu with a 3870
Either you are the luckyest person or you have the luckyest pc........ or the other option.

Edit finally found the thread you mentioned and hate to tell you but a lot of the settings go to very high on gta4 and not just high and you even had some stuff on medium and all at a low res too.
This explains it running well on your system but isn`t excactly the high settings you mentioned you ran it at now is it.

Right, I think I've fixed it. Using the commandline -availablevidmem 0.5 lets the game just see 2GB of my cards ram and now I can max out the settings LOL

Even on my 5970 and i7 the benchmark ran better than the game does.

I had a look for that thread too,, but I couldnt find it. I couldn't get any settings higher accept for 1 of the sliders with my 3870, gfx still looked very nice tho

I might run GTA4 sometime and play it through again as I should be able to run everything maxed out with my 6950. It will be interesting to see how my dual core cpu copes with all gfx settings maxed out.

Good luck with that Phil:) With options at very high and sliders at about 50%, I got about 40 to 50 fps average and sometimes lower with rain. Thats on an i7 and 5970.

Put a text file called "Commandline.txt" in the main GTAIV folder

Put this in

-norestriction
-nomemrestrict
-availablevidmem "X"
-percentvidmem "100"

Where X = number of cards with RAM. For example, 2 SLI cards with 512MB would be 2. Three would be 3. Try them to see what happens
