Hey guys :) I bought my HIS 6990 about a month or two ago now and i've been noticing, its lacking the power the benchmarks say it should be giving. I definetly think theres a problem with it also because strangely i get better FPS in Crysis Maxed with a custom graphics mod than what i get in Crysis 2. Also my FPS Can really drop during big battles on Crysis to thing like 20 FPS and i've heard people say there 6990's only drop to 60 which is what i get most of the time.

Specs,
Intel i7 2600k and 3.4ghz cooled by Noctua-NHD14
8GB Corsair XMS3 1600Mhz RAM.
HIS 6990
Coolermaster HAF X
Samsung Spinpoint F4 1TB
Corsair 1000w HX PSU

Running a legit copy of Windows 7 64-bit professional.

Also, this might not mater but in minecraft i only get in the 200's at max FPS. On my old computer E7500 and 5770 i got 120 easily so thats kinda disapointing too.

I think the problem might be thermal related as some temp programs read my GPU at 65 idle and never exceeds 85 at load. Also i dont want to Oclock my CPU YET as idle the cores are around 34 degreees. Thanks guys and any suggestions?

Overclock that CPU that's why you got a 'K' cpu isn't it?! With a graphics card like the 6990 I really think you might be running into a cpu bottleneck when running at stock speeds.

Latest drivers? Confirmed crossfire is functioning (I had accidently disabled mine)?

Those GPU temps are well within normal range.

Older games are more likely to bottleneck. Shouldn't be getting 20fps in Crysis though!

On Crysis the FPS dipped around 20 during a huge Alien fight. Also windows asks me quite a bit if i want to change my colour scheme or something to do with aero during gameplay. On BC2 i've noticed that my FPS while recording with fraps is no where near as good as what others say theirs is. My only concern with overclocking is that last time i tried it i got BSOD at boot. Also, when i run Asus optimal (the speedy one, lol) when i turn on my PC it makes like a revving sound and on the third time, it boots. Is this normal? Should i get anymore fans for my HAF-X? tbh, i was expecting cooler temps on the CPU with the Noctua :/ is 34's normal at stock in real temp?

34 sounds normal. You get a BSOD because your CPU isn't getting enough voltage I'm guessing. You will need to up the voltage when you overclock or you'll get BSODs. It'll be called CPU core voltage or something like that in the bios. Try this; go to the bios and set the multiplyer to 44 and the CPU voltage to 1.35v. Boot into windows and run a program called Prime95 and monitor the temps. If it doesn't BSOD or reboot during the test after say around 3 hours then your CPU should have a relatively stable OC although you should run it overnight or for around 8 hours or so to make sure your OC is stable.

I have Prime95 just never been able to test it with overclock, anyway i'll do that right now thanks. I'll keep you guys updated with my laptop on how it's going. Also quick question. While running prime95, can i go on youtube etc. I dont mean gaming or video rendering or anything like that but just easy tasks.

IIRC Minecraft doesn't support crossfire so you'd only be using half the GPU anyhow and once your pumping out 100+fps your likely running into CPU limits on higher performance.

Hey again guys :)

I've attempted to Oclock my 2600k to 4.4Ghz :D only problem is, it doesnt appear to have done literally anything to my PC, lol. Even on Bios it said "Target CPU Boost speed 4400" or something along those lines. CPU-Z screenshot below.

Hmm i'm pretty sure you don't need 1.392Volts to run at 4.4Ghz, Try around 1.3V you don't want to have to much heat.

BC2 Gets about 90 Average in 32 Player Port Valdez Conquest. This seems really low D: At this rate i'm expecting BF3 to destroy my pc.
All high settings 16xAF 1xAA 1920x1080 60hz

You sure the game doesn't cap the frame rate at 90fps in multiplayer or something? Also the "BC2" your refering to it is not BFBC2, but the older one? If it is the older one, the chances are the game doesn't use more than 2 cores, and even with your 2600K overclocked, your 6990 might still get bottlenecked. Best thing to do is check your GPU usage while in the game.

Also with FRAPs running, sometimes it makes you get lower frame rate than you should...
