Afternoon all :)

I purchased a 6990 recently and not knowing my way around with amd cards thought I would ask the good folk of ocuk.

I have 3 x Dell 24" 1920 x 1080 P2412H monitors with dvi and dsub as connection options I will not be using the dsub so as the gpu has only 1 dvi connection and mini display ports am thinking I need 3 x mini displayport to dvi cables so my question is do they have to be "active" adapters/cables or will generic mini dp to dvi cables work?

Thanks in advance :)

Read through a similar thread and gather that I need at least 1 active display port to dvi so I think am sorted

Any 5xxx or later AMD card can support up to 2 connections on VGA/DVI/HDMI/Passive Displayport adapters. Any more than that and you'll need to use Active Displayport adapters or an actual Displayport connection on the monitor.

For your 6990 and DVI monitors, this means you'll need a DVI-DVI cable, one activate DP-DVI adapter, and an active or passive DP-DVI adapter.

Hope that helps, and get some pics when that's up and running - that setup sounds sweet. :D

EDIT - forgot, Sapphire's FLEX models can support up to 3 connections on VGA/DVI/HDMI/Passive DP adpaters. Not relevant for your case, but in the interests of full disclosure should've pointed that out!
