6990 slower than expected

(Socket 1155) with a motherboard like a Asrock Fatal1ty Z68 Pro Gen 3 intel Z68 which boasts 2x PCI 16x

Still x8/x8.

The ASRock Z68 Extreme7 Gen3, which has an NF200 chip, runs at x16/x16 with 2 cards fitted.

Some of the other boards with NF200 chips don't use the extra lanes if only 2 cards installed so still operate at x8/x8.

Cheers guys, thanks again for the help. So for the new board and the top chip, I'm look at £300 - £400.... selling my old board and chip I'm guessing I'll get £150 - £200 maybe So still need to find another £200 and this will only get me onto Sandybridge... not Socket 2011.

Maybe it is best to just wait 6 months or so.... by which point there'll be new graphics cards out lol

Seriously there's nothing wrong with your current board and CPU, but you MUST overclock that CPU to get the most out of your overkill video card setup...

TBH at 1080P one 6990 is more than enough to glide through pretty much any game with ultra settings, I'm not quite sure what you must have been thinking when you purchased another 6970 for tri-fire

Cheers Bad Boy. So you would you not worry about changing the board etc for now? I may just wait for socket 2011 to come out and for there drivers to settle. Are you experiencing similar performance with Crysis 2 and F1 2010? E.g. Only two of the gpus being used?

As for coupe69 asking why I have tri fire... I want to game at 6368 x 1152.... Full settings, and over 60fps. Some games can do this with just the 6990 but others need a little boost from the 6970. Dirt 3 with everything full I'm getting over 90fps. Must say though, the boost its giving does seem to be a little low compared to what I hoped though.

I would change it if you can afford it. 16x will increase performance but it won't give you more than 100-150 points in Heaven 2.5 or 5-10fps at that res.

Crysis 2 sucks and has sucked from day 1 mate. At first it only used 1 GPU in my rig. Are you using the 6990 in the top slot? Again, F1 isn't great either.

In the future, dome some research of you chosen game and "poor ATI GPU usage". You'll see that others usually have problems that do not relate to mobo/CPU.

I would recommend using ATI RadeonPro. Do some research and learn how to use it. It allows you to (sometimes) force GPU usage
