Hi guys,

Is there any thing out that actually uses the full 6gb?
If not whats the most demanding game out at the moment other than BF3, from what ive that only uses 2gb of the cards ram but i thought that BF3 would be using more if its there :\

Asking as im upgrading my card next month an the wife as allowed me £400 instead of £250 which i was going to get a 7850, but basically i want to get some thing that will last.

NOTHING at 1080p

Only incredibly silly res' will come close. Mind you, you'll need plenty of cards aswell, eg tri/quadfire 7970 6gb to actually utilise it

actually max payne 3178mb does not use more than about 2500mb it just allocates the remainder hence the test involving 3gb and 4gb cards not actually showing different results

I remember working at a hardware place and our top selling GPU was an 8400GS 1gb because it had more ram than most other cards at the time :/

1. For rich dumb kids who don't know much about technology
2. For people who likes to brag about their a big e-penis
3. For multiple monitors and mutliple cards setup

MULTIPLE monitors makes sense, but everything else is just plain silly, my 7970 is way too powerful for me, as is the whole rig, but at least it'll last me ages... no need to upgrade for a few years, i'm just here to look at the Games thread and maybe to build another pc case... not sure yet.

i'm a bit upset that my rig's finished and working fine now.....i've got nothing to do, i might build a new kitchen table :D!

You should take the cooler off and lap the 7970 to match your 2500k :p:D

yeah, I hear you about the 7970 being too powerful. Shame the games have not catch up with the hardware. Arma 3 is the only one I can think of that is likely to stretch it in the next few months.

Any other big games due for release this year worth getting a high end card for if you are only gaming in 1080P?

Whilst I agree a 7970 is ridiculously fast, it wipes the floor with my CF 6850's previously. It still struggles to run BF3 in 1920x1080 with everything on Ultra & Post Processing on high & 4x MSAA.

To get a consistent 60 fps I am having to lower the Shading to High, and turn off MSAA completely.

So whilst yes, it is very very fast and can manage nearly every game going, I personally don't think it can handle every setting to it's maximum.

i dont think so, especially if you're only after shooters and this includes next year too, even DOOM 4 is still only the Rage engine

what's next year, VEGAS 3....Bioshock infinity, crysis 3 and Doom 4 ( if you're lucky) and none of these will bother the 7970, i've probably missed something though

My setup can use over 3gb in some games on max but then the Gpu,s can't handle the max settings, think I need a 3ird card..if only :)

yes but you're setting BF3 that high on purpose, i'm talking about a game on default to high settings only, not ultra!..you cant tell the difference on a large screen so that's why i dont bother.
