Hi.
I've got a 6Gb Micro SD card (SDHC) and it's not working. When put in a Nokia 6300 it says you must format the card. When I put it into a SD card adapter and attach it to my PC it is not recognised at all.

Any ideas what the problem is? Didn't think you'd need drivers for it?

Well my friend bought it for him mum's phone. Some monkey in the Carphone Warehouse told him it would work. I guess he was wrong.
SDHC is FAT32 and I guess a lot of phones can't support it. I see the N95 takes it.

But that doesn't explain why it doesn't do anything when connected to a PC. Or would it have to first be formatted in the phone for the PC to recognise it?

Oh I see. I'm using the reading on the side of my Dell 2407WFP. Could that be the problem there?

Either way I guess my mate needs to return the card and tell CPW to brush up on their technology before selling stuff

The internet would suggest so...
"Cons: doesnt work in regular sd card readers including the one in the dell 2407WFP"

Thanks. That'll be the problem there.

Doesn't fat32 have a 2gb limit or am I talking out my behind?

Talking out your fat behind ;)
I just checked and FAT16 is limited to 2Gb while FAT32 doesn't normally go beyond 32Gb

You can get some very dodgy 4GB cards that use FAT16 but their compatibility with phones is hit and miss.

I don't think the 6300 supports SDHC, sorry. :(

Ahh, brain is going in my old age... :o I still need to try out a 6gb card, as they work with some things, but not others (apparently).... I have around 6 things that use these cards now. :)

Very few PC-based card readers support SDHC. I can certainly vouch for Dell monitors not being one of them. It took me a while to find one that specifically stated it was compatible (if it doesn't say, it probably doesn't work). Also, a lot of devices only claim support up to 4GB so even if something claims to support SDHC there's no guarantee it'll work with a 6GB card (though that's unlikely to be an issue with card readers).

^ Damn... :( I think I'll see if I can borrow a card, I don't want to buy one and have lots of hassle and then find it doesn't work... My 2gb is fine for now anyway. :)

I have the same memory card but when i purchased mine it come with a CD adaptor as well as a USB adaptor! Mine works fine when i plug it into my Dell FPW20 monitor! I use a K850i!
