Hi everyone.

I've just upgraded my memory from 2gb to 6gb. In the system menu it shows 6gb. With only 1.98gb useable. I thought this would have been an easy upgrade but this has stumped me.

Any help or advice would be great. Need any more information then please ask.

Thanks. Dave.

Long shot but having my cooler clamped too tightly onto my cpu (i7 870) caused this very issue, loosening it slightly cured it.

Had me stumped for weeks!

Try pulling out your known good stick and see if it boots with the new stick in. If it doesn't try different mobo slots to see if it's the memory or slot that's bad.

what cpu/mobo is it? might need a bios update if its old. x32 bit windows usually only sees 3.96GB even if you have over that much installed. how many sticks did you have before hand? 2x1GB? and have you installed 2x4GB to get it to 6gb? maybe try it with just the new sticks to see if you get to 4GB

There's 2x 1gb sticks installed that work fine (Nanya pc2 6400 666)'it's an old system but still works well, its my current project, the motherboard is a HP 437795. The new sticks I bought were 2x PC2-6400 800 MHz 2gb each. I may have Miss matched them and need more Nanya?

Thank you. Dave.
