6GB RAM for i5 possible?

Title says all, just wondering as here and every place I've looked sells dual channel in 4GB packs, and triple in 6GB packs, I want 6GB but can't afford an i7

You could use 3 sticks for 6Gb but youd only be running it in single channel mode. Or get 2x4Gb and 2x1G for dual channel mode

You could run 6G using a pair of 1G sticks and a pair of 2G sticks in dual channel mode, but it might make more sense to go for 8G (4x2G).

If you want more than 4GB, just get 4x2GB sticks and use 8GB.

Yeah looking at the prices, 4gb and 2gb is not much cheaper than 8gb, so I think I'll buy 4gb now and 4gb in the future.

8gb is a bit... overkill in my opinion, 6gb was what I wanted and didn't want to pay for lots of RAM, however looking at the prices it seems the only real option, so I'll buy some when I build and some more down the line.

Sounds like the safe bet.

To be honest 4GB of ram right now is still quite a lot

Though memory prices are expected to rise even further in the next few months.

The Gigabyte GA-P55-UD6 has six RAM slots... Not quite sure that helps (considering the price of the board, plus the fact that you'd presumably have to run 6x1GiB), but I thought I'd throw it in!
