6GB RAM only 4 usable ?

Just crossfired my 270x 4gb card and when I've looked in system settings on windows 64 bit it says 6gb but only 4 usable ? Anyone got a any ideas please ? :(
 
I think so although I haven't checked it for a while .. I have just disabled crossfire in the ccc though and it still said the same ? :(
 
try with just one gpu installed again,if its still showing it try reseating each memory stick,and or undo cpu cooler quarter turn on each mounting screw,if its still showing that then you need to check cpu socket for bent pins

take care not to damage any when looking,if you havnt removed/disturbed the cpu at all then id leave it
 
I haven't touched the CPU , it's been in same place with the cooler on for 4 years lol? Although I took the fan off the heat sink to clean at the weekend and it's close to the RAM .. I may have knocked it will try re sitting , if it shows 6gb installed tho does that not mean it's there but Not usable ?
 
that could be it,cooler too tight try reaseating it but not as tight as before

yeh it means it can detect it but cant use it,if alls well it should just say 6gb of ram nothing else

the memory controller is inside the cpu so a tight cooler can cut off the signal reaching the memory slots through the printed circuit board
 
Ah I haven't touched the actual cooler just the fan which clips onto the heat sink, I'm pretty adamant I've knocked the ram now , I will try taking it out and re seating it see if that works , if not though what be the next protocol ? :(
