Still doing some research into what to upgrade my x2 560ti SLI to in order to game at 2560x1600 and came across the 7970CF vs 680SLI thread.

In this, there was mention of some 6GB cards and a quick search found the Sapphire HD 7970 6GB.

Now, if I read the thread correctly, RAM is unlikely to be a limitation over GPU so, is the 6GB overkill compared to the 3GB version?

Would a standard 7970 waterblock suffice?

Thanks guys.

Looking at the single card set-up results, the 7970 beats the 680 by 3:1 on those charts. I'm not ready to drop the best part of a grand on a water cooled dual card set-up when there's likely to be a shift in prices once newer top-end stuff becomes available, but I'm buying with a view to getting another identical card 6-12 months down the line.

For info, I play MOH, COD, BF3, F1 2012 and occasionally flight sim.
