7.1 motherboard, simple speakers

How do I connect an old pair of 2 channel speakers to a 7.1 motherboard which has 3 back panel sockets marked centre/subwoofer, rear left/rear right, and surround left/surround right? The speakers are wired to a single jack plug.

I don't want to buy a new speaker set for this machine, but want to use an old spare pair instead.

You usually put 2 channel speakers (or 2.1) into the green line out socket. But from what your saying you don't have any sockets for front speakers, which should'nt be the case.

Yes, there is a Line Out socket. I am going by the ABit IP35Pro manual which I downloaded - don't have the board yet. There certainly isn't a socket marked Front, which is what puzzled me in the first place
