Hi guys. Basically, about a week ago I put together a new computer.
Spec is as follows.
Abit IP35 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
OcUK GeForce 8800 GT 512MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI
Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "Energy Efficient SLACR 95W Edition"
GeIL 4GB (4x1GB) PC2-6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2
Corsair HX 520W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU
Antec Nine Hundred Ultimate Gaming Case
Tuniq Tower 120 CPU Cooler
Sennheiser PC151 Pro-Gaming Headphones
Also, from my old computer I transferred:
Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Platinum Fatal1ty 7.1 Champion Series Sound Card
Creative Inspire 7.1 T7900 Speakers
After installing Windows Vista 64bit Ultimatum I noticed that my 7.1 sound was not working as it had in my other computer, however my headphones (when plugged into the sound card) did.
This is what I've tried so far to no avail:
Disabled motherboard sound in BIOS and installed latest drivers + checked all settings are correct - 7.1 not working, headphones working.
Tried older versions of the drivers + web release versions - Still didn't work but headphones still working.
Enabled motherboard sound and removed sound card. Installed latest motherboard audio drivers (as well as trying older drivers) - 7.1 doesnt work on motherboard but headphones do.
Double checked in the manuals that audio jacks are all in correct place. For all the above stages in windows sound propeties, sound is shown to be playing when 7.1 connected (sound bar moves up and down). But no actual sound.
Also opened case and double checked all connections to no avail.
Moved sound card and speakers back to old computer (running XP) - They worked perfecty.
Installed XP on new computer + installed XP 32bit drivers - No sound on motherboard or sound card for 7.1. But headphones still going strong.
Tried different working 7.1 speakers in system - Still not working.
Basically, i've tried all that I can to get the 7.1 speakers working on my new machine and although windows shows sound is coming through, it's not. However, my stereo headphones do work.
All of this makes me think that the motherboard must have a fault however a fault that stops 7.1 sound working on the sound card as well as motherboard 7.1?
Thanks for all help and advice
