Hi, i have 10MB blue yonder internet from telewest, im in a student house and we need to share the internet between the 7 of us.

From our old house we have a 4 port wireless router, however now were in a house that is all wired up with netowrk cable to each room, what would i need to purchase to allow wired access for 7 PC's from one cable modem and 4 port router?

Any suggestions would be grand, thanks.

Just grab yourself a small 10 port switch and bobs your uncle. :)

Just uplink that into your 4-port router.

You would just need a simple 5 port hub or switch. If you link this up to the router you would have 7 usable ports - a total of 9 but with 2 ports used to link the two devices together.

Other than that, you'll need either a straight through or a crossover cable to link the two together. Chances are that the router will auto sense if it's recent, or maybe even the switch will, in which case a straight through cable is ok. If they don't auto sense then the switch may have an uplink port or an uplink toggle button but if not then a crossover cable will be needed.

So yes, in short, just a minimum of a 5 port hub or switch. Something like the Netgear FS605 would do, or even the 608 if you wanted to have some extra ports. The Netgear will auto sense too so no need to worry about whether you're using a straight through or crossover cable to link it to the router.
