Is it worth paying lets say £70 to upgrade from my 4690k to a 4790k?

It would be second hand. Looks like I could get ~£130 for my i5 and get the i7 for ~£200.

Seems a fair deal but worried about buying a second hand chip. could be a bad overclocker...could have had a hard life.

I've just made the jump from 3570k to 3770k as a stop gap. I think it's worthwhile now having seen how the division hammers my cpu sometimes. I've seen it hit 100% and regularly see 90% or just over. I actually see the upgrade pound for pound better than a 6700k system given the gains from ddr4. Don't want my cpu holding back a new 1070/1080 in 3-6 months.

If you've got £70 to spare then go for it. An i7 chip is nice to have. I had the money to spare and went from a 4670 to a 4790. I can't say it's noticeably better in any games or even apps that I use but its a good 40-50% better in benchmarks!

Thanks all. Appriciated.

I've considered Skylake, but the new mobo, ram etc just makes it not worth while at the moment. I'll stick with Haswell for a few generations yet.

Ashes of the Singularity would make use of the extra threads. The new Doom is apparently highly multi-threaded too.

I did it with mine, I sold my 6600k for £130ish and bought a 6700k delidded for £170. It was worth it for me, because games like Overwatch absolutely minced the i5 so hyperthreading definitely helped.

I would absolutely do it, try playing Fallout 4 or Battlefield 1 online on the i7 versus the i5 and the difference is pretty massive. Minimum frames in particular are so much better.

For £70 for me it's a no brainer really.
