Hi All,

Got a bit of money laying around from a recent kidney sale (or tax back incoming next month) and after taking ownership of a 60' TV ... it's starting to look a bit small.

Was in a local store yesterday and saw the LG 79UX340C 79" which looked very nice indeed. Not a cheap piece of kit but can make it work. Also saw a 55' LG OLED for literally half the price of the 79'. It's stunning obviously, it's OLED.

Then there's the possibility of saving myself a lot of money and just getting a projector screen.

It'll just be for my movie/entertainment room. No live TV and all that.

What would you be looking at if you had the option?

Cheers

i went with a projector as couldn't afford a 106" tv plus in a few years i can upgrade projector to 4k or better if available and affordable and already have screen :)

Projector you get a lot of inches for your money, it will give you a stunning picture and once you go for that kind of size it's very difficult to go back to watching something on 55 or 60 inches. The biggest issue is that you need the room set up for it - you need a screen and you need to be able to make the room dark. For this reason, it won't suit everyone but I think it's worth considering - if you can go somewhere and see one in action it's worth a go.

You can probably get a good projector, and a 55" OLED for the same price as a 65" OLED, so that might be worth thinking about.

Projector every time. As daz said, you need a dark room. Prices for an entry level 1080p DLP one from RS is £440. you'd get approx 92" diagonal image from a 'throw' distance of about 10 feet. I'd check to see if you are susceptible to the Rainbow effect from watching a DLP projected image first though - it can give some people headaches. Also factor in the cost of replacement bulbs if you use it all the time. 8 hours a day will mean it will need to be replaced almost every 2 years, depending on what you buy.
