Basically I'm looking for a laptop that i can take to and from uni something less than 2Kg in weight would be good. If possible i want it to have more than 3 hours battery life for witting word documents and emailing ect. I wouldn't expect a lot of time when playing games :D

I want it to play some basic games such as HL2 and a bit of WoW but nothing like crysis would be nice but i have a gaming rig for that.

I'v been told that my dyslexic grant will pay for a Toshiba Satellite Pro U400 which will be costing them around £700 which seems a joke as from looking at that laptop it's heavy which is not good since i walk to a from uni for 30 mins each way. The battery life can be less than 3 hours and i need it to run for more since some of my days have 4 hours of lectures and 2 hours of labs lol.

So i am in the proses trying to get them to allow me to choose my laptop from a different supplier or to let me buy the laptop and for them to reimburse me.

So what would you guys recommend, also if possible could you link a review as well :D

Thanks.

Hello mate.

Fistly I hate toshiba's, we use them at work and the fault rate is unbelievable so we have switched to HP.

For £700 you have plenty of options but I would recommend an XPS 1530. Its light and easily portable and has an 8600 which will cut it for games at average settings

The 6 cell gives 2.5 to 3hrs on power saver so you might want to consider the 9cell if you can put up with the extra weight

been looking at the XPS 1530 really i would like it to be around 13" or less.

How does the 8400M GS compare to the 8600GT is there a major difference.

I'm going to look as some of the small samsung and hp laptops now. I'll report back later :p

oh ok, well if you want a 13" check out the lg p310 it has a 9600.

there is a massive difference between 8400 and 8600. 8400 is only really any good for older games at low settings. Check out a couple of reviews of xps 1530 and 1330 to see the difference, the 1530 has 8600 and 1330 has 8400. other than gfx card and size they are the same tech so you will get a good indication of card difference.
