got an e8400 @ 3.6ghz just now
don't want to skimp on the motherboard as not intending to replace this for many years
intending to keep my GTX 470 for now
need a new case, this ones front panel connections are getting iffy
would like a good sound card but not sure if that's practical, using a POD XT guitar effects unit as an external soundcard just now for audio recording stuff where latency is important (Ableton)
not sounding like a hoover would be nice too :)

SO what parts do you need?

Just the tower unit? OS? keyboard and mouse? monitor and speakers?

This is a good build. I wouldn't change a thing.

looks good to me! I take it the mobo/ram/cpu are a known working combo?

this may be the wrong place to ask but how do you access the members market ? I'll have quite a few things to sell once I get the new parts....
when I say I upgraded to win 8 I mean on the same system, so win xp was overwritten by win 8 - will the belarc thing still work ?

The system will play fine together :D

You will need 1000 posts to gain access to the MM.

If Win 8 is on your system, then that key will show in Belarc.

As for the MM, if you had 300 or more posts before Jan. 2012, I think you should qualify. Check your User CP.

wow, Belarc knows too much, exactly what I needed tho

what do I look for is User CP, I can't see any option for MM or to check posts before that date ?

edit - just realised I can see the members market on the main forum page. never scrolled down that for before!
after searching tho it turns out my still reasonable system is worth pennies!

I approve of the build stulid posted, but you may prefer a different sound card, so here are a few options at varying price points...

Asus Xonar DG 7.1 PCI Sound Card with built in Headphone Amp - £26.99
Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio 7.1 Sound Card - £35.99
Asus Xonar DSX 7.1 PCI Express - £43.99

If you can find one for a reasonable price, then get a Creative Soundblaster X-Fi Titanium HD or another Soundblaster X-Fi card of the same generation, as those are far better than the latest (Z and Recon) ones.
