Hi all,

I am looking to spec up a "decent" Office PC for my parents.

Looking to spend £700 on case ans everything inside the case ( i.e no peripherals needed).

Not the best on hardware and would like some suggestions.

All they really use it for is web browsing and office. No gaming etc :P

Would like it to be as high spec as possible to try and be as future proof as possible.

Thanks for any help

Hi all,
Looking to spend £700 on case ans everything inside the case ( i.e no peripherals needed).

If you have a monitor with Vesa mounts on the back, look at an Intel NUC - you can mount it behind the monitor for maximum desk space.

Depending which model you go for you can get a Core i5 model with everything you need (SSD, RAM, wireless) for well under £500.

If they're only using it for web browsing and office, surely they don't need an i3 processor that costs 100 quid? I mean, you can get an fx6300 for 70 that will probably outperform it.

Although the components will no doubt be crappier, you could always just buy a £300 pre-assembled machine from a manufacturer. It would certainly save you some money, and it would run browsers and office just fine.

These days £700 is a fortune for a home machine for anybody but an enthusiast.

Spend 2 or 300 pounds and "future proof" it by keeping the rest in the bank till it is not fast enough in 5-10 years time and then throw it away and buy a new one.

for heavens sake, what is with these people suggesting way over the top over priced equipment....

@ OP
what exactly are you doing with the office pc?
office pc can either be data entry do nothing pc or all the way up to actual beefy computing...

My recommendation is forget storage space if all you are doing is client machine. There should be network storage for all employees and company data.

also an SSD is invaluable to IT maintenance. It's just so much faster than HDDs that an office pc should have 1

also your IT should have portable CD player for install, office pc's dont need cd players

1 x Intel Core i3-4130 3.40GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £89.99

That's almost the same as an office PC I built for a business client. No need for 700 quid office pc imo.
