God it's a bloody minefield, this PC lark. Too much choice really... and a lot of opinion!
OK here's what I want it for>
Photography & to act as a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) for my musical musings. Want to go dual core of course, and possibly 2gb RAM. Prefer a quiet machine, but not obsessively so. Need to be able to use my M-Audio 24/96 PCI audio card, as I don't want to fork out for anything more, cause I need a MIDI synth keyboard to go with this. I rarely bother with games beyond emulators.
Have 3 HDDs here, one SATA, but want a clean start at first, so just one HDD for now I think, to keep the cost down, or is there a cost effective alternative?
dumbo question - Windows XP Home is on this machine, can I transfer it easily?
I've never built anything before, but looking into it, that approach seems the best bang for buck, or is there a recommended system out there?
Please help a confused old badger
