I have the Sony KDL-32S5500 TV with an Android box connected to it for movies and the display option on the box allows me to choose between 720p 60hz or 1080i 60hz and was wondering which resolution is better?

He's got a 1366x768 screen

Outputting 720p means his TV will scale that upto native, so 720p to 768 some upscaling
If he outputs 1080i, it'll be 1080, but interlaced. Not to up on interlaced tech, but may have juddering, to do with 4:3 pulldown, or interlaced artefacts. Not sure.

Try both.

Would be ideal if your source has 1366x768 option that way native and progressive

A lot of TVs won't support anything other than the vanilla HDTV timings via the HDMI inputs, so in this case you'd be limited to 720p or 1080i; so that means being unable to drive the screen at its native resolution even if it was possible. Going in via the analogue VGA input gets around this in some cases but not all, however, it's not really practical when there's HDCP copy protected source signals in the mix. For that reason then, trying to output 768p over HDMI is a bit of a non-starter for most HD Ready TVs.

Just a thought, but in the Android box display settings menu, do you have Auto Detect set to ON?

We have an old Android box hooked up to a HD Ready TV (Sharp) in one room for Kodi. This TV will accept 1080p @ 50/60Hz despite being a native 768p TV.

When the Android box is set to Auto Detect it defaults to 720p60 and the picture is awful. It is jerky as if it is buffering constantly. If I set the Android box to 1080i/50 or 1080p/50 it is much smoother.

What are you watching? Most of the Android TV boxes are limited to mobile quality on things like Netflix & Amazon. You need an approved Android TV box to get the proper apps.
