My budget is £750. I will be using it for games and some uni work. I have a 19" Samsung monitor and i run it at 1280 x 1024. I already have a keyboard, mouse, speakers, external HD etc.

I tried selecting a good motherboard as i would like to keep this for about 2 years and all i will need to do is some basic upgrades. If theres anything not compatible or a bad choice then please let me know. Also this is my first build

Thanks. Arron.

good chioce, if u could go with the seagate 10 series H/d £15 extra, ace hard drive, so quiet :)
+ a 3rd party coolor ninja Or artic freezer would give u far superior cooling :D

i know that takes u over u budget, but u wont regret it :)

I will get a new cpu cooler before christmas hopefully. I was looking to get a Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket 775) (HS-017-AR). I will also get the Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 200GB if its only £15 extra.

Thanks for the reply. Any other opinions will be great.

Has anyone with a Gigabyte GA_965P_DQ6 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard had any problems? Did you have to update your bios to solve memory or graphics card problems?

Any help would be great. Cheers.

save up some coppers and get yourself a 2GB kit. its worth it =P. maybe you could buy it without vat through a relatives company and spend the saving on it? :P

Get the DS3 mobo rather than the DQ6 (better clocker for the allendales and cheaper), use the money saved for a new cooler or towards 2gb ram.

Sorry to hijack your thread but I thought seeing as my needs & budget are very similar to yours I thought I might as well post them in here instead of cluttering the main page with another spec me a system topic ;)

Anyway, I've finalised this rig and was looking for some advice/opinions on what I've lined up to do the job

At £750 its probably at the top end of my budget (£650-750), so I'm currently fighting myself over what I want and what I can afford so maybe knocking a little off the price without a big hit in performance in one area would help. I'll be mainly using this for gaming and also Uni work. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated before I commit to anything thanks! :D

Plus it wouldn't work and the Asrock mobo is crap for overclocking...

In my case :p :o lol
if you could go abit over budget get a Antec Super LANBOY Aluminum Super Mini Tower Case - No PSU (CA-012-AN)

DQ6 is Windows Vista ready, which is why it caught my eye. If i do overclock it will be a minor one to get a little extra boost so i thought the DQ6 would be fine.

I will see if i can stretch my budget for the GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit.

Also i think the Antec Super LANBOY Aluminum Super Mini Tower Case looks much better than the Antec Titan 550 Tower Case but as this is my first build the Titan is bigger and easier to install (the conclusion after reading reviews on both cases).

So will the DQ6 be fine for a small overclock?

Thanks for the replies. A really big help.

Windows vista ready means nothing. All motherboards are vista ready.

Why do you want the DQ6 specifically? It only has a few more features than the DS3 and if you are not going to use them its a waste of money. Also you will get far supperior clocks with the DS3.

Also people always say i will only overclock a little bit. Buy you might aswell get the full potential out of your chip.

With that information i will go with the DS3. Thanks.

I also read about problems with the memory with this board. Its set to 1.8v and the memory i want requires 1.9v or greater. People have had to get cheaper RAM to access the bios to change the settings. Do you anything about this?

Cheers.

If you are getting the geil ultra i would not worry. The memory is compatible out of the box. It worked fine for me. Although you want to increase the vdimm to +0.3 at some point.
