Hey everyone, looking to build my first rig this week and was wondering if you could give me a hand. The comp i have been using to play Guild Wars all these years is slowly(very slowly btw, been with me for about 7 years and only ever had to give her a new PSU.....and er, i think that was because i touched something i should not have) dying and with the release of GW2 round the corner i'm in need of a new one. Other games like Mass Effect/Metro2033/BF3 will be played but its primarily for GW2.

I've looked around a bit and kind of cherry picked what i think would be a good foundation build that i could upgrade in the future (SSD), but tbqh i have no idea what i'm doing.

Ah....i did originally have this flashy thing but i swapped it out for something simpler. I also see the Z9 get rec'd a lot but its out of stock unfortunately. Its my first build so something easy to work with would be ideal.

SSD would deffo ve on my list.
I would very much like one, but i don't know how to squeeze it in with the budget i have. D:

All my movies/music/whathaveyou goes on my external that i plug into my PS3.

So if everything goes onto an external drive.

Then you can just get a bigger SSD for the OS and as many games/program installs you can cram onto it.

for the case, i'd say to go for the zalman z9+ instead, but its out of stock at the moment
the ocz zt is a pretty noisy psu

Hey guys, was wondering of you could help me out.

So everything arrived yesterday safe and sound and i started the build outside the case this morning. Pretty sure everything is in the correct place; RAMs in, CPU in, thermal on, Heatsink on, GPU in and PSU connected(supplemental+main+PCI-E cables) then i short it to start it up, all fans spin. I've plugged my monitor in to the VGA on the mobo but get no signal at all, i do get a HDMI signal from my TV via GPU which takes me straight to a screen which says something along the lines of "Reboot and select proper boot device". Should i not see the Gigabyte BIOS startup screen, even for a split second at least? Also can't hear any beeps because no speaker is connected....i want my beeps. D:

I don't know if its booting ok or not? And no monitor input is a bit worrying. (trying to find my DVI converter)

Would it be better for me to forgo the HDD and just get a bigger SSD?

In mine i have the following,
Sammy 128gig 830 SSD desktop, this has all my main install programs on.
1TB this has all my Steam games installed.
2 x 500gig hdd these are my music/pictures etc etc.
If you play a lot of games don't go for the bigger SSD option you'll soon fill it up.

Can you get to your BIO's when its plugged in your Tv?
Try setting every thing back to default if you can then plug it back in to your monitor.
