Hi all,

After a spec for a machine for a max of £750. Needs to include the machine, monitor, 2.1 speakers, keyboard and mouse.

Will be used for general office work, and playing MS Train Simulator.

Dont need to worry about software (get it through work)

Many thanks.

I'm guessing that MS Train Simulator isn't the most demanding of games graphically so I've just gone with a 7600GT but you could fit an X1950pro into the budget. There is still scope to enhance a few parts within the budget but it is more than sufficient currently for the tasks you describe. :)

Wasn't sure for you colour preferences, so went with black. Silver or white perfectly possible for the price.

good spec but you could change the cpu to an e6600 with the change

That specification looks pretty good although you might be as well getting the DS3P rather than the DS3 as it is an updated version and any bugs should have been ironed out plus it has the features of the DS4 barring the cooling system so for an extra £5ish it is worthwhile. If you are going to be overclocking then you might be best changing the Ram for some Cas4 stuff like the Geil PC6400 C4.

The X1650 isn't as good as the 7600GT so I'd definitely change that. :)

ignore, no monitor

Then would probably go for a 8800GTS 320Mb instead. If you don't game much then up the CPU with a better mobo, perhaps a better speaker as well, and go for a seperate PSU & Case.

The X1300 is a worse graphics card than previously specced
The RAM is 533MHz, standard these days is 667MHz, or 800MHz if you want to overclock
They don't mention which motherboard - i.e. It's a rubbish one
Without the decent RAM and motherboard, you won't be able to do any overclocking of the Core 2 Duo (which is stupidly easy these days, and one of it's best strengths)
Basically, you could do better in every way except for screen size if you were building it yourself.
