Hey guys,

Got the PC as I wanted basically..only thing nipping my backside is the CPU..

Would it we worth an upgrade from a i5 7500 to a 6700K? Reason I ask is I have vouchers for a big retail company and can get one for a good price.

If so, would it worth on the KabyLake platform (motherboard) or would I need to backdate / downgrade that?

Cheers.

I have £140 from a retailer that sells second-hand items with a 2 year warranty..but the CPU is a little pricey on its own for being second-hand, (£225)..

My rough spec is:
i5 7500
16GB DDR4 RAM
RX 580
Basic motherboard - Gigabyte H110M-H 1151
128gb ssd for OS
500gb ssd for games

Ideally a CPU sway without much else would be prefered, but open to options you guys give :):)

The 7700, it seems to be cheaper..although, the specs are not quite as good as the 7700K? Would I still be better with a 7700? Or a 7700K (which I wont OC)?

I think it's the boost that matters 4.2 on the 7700 and 4.5 on the 7700k. So not much in it.

I would save your money and just put a 7700 in there. Seems a waste spending extra £50 for unlocked one when your board doesn't support it.

Up to you though.

What graphics card do you have?

Yeah, I see where your coming from. I have a RX 580 in the system (just installed today actually) and I think my CPU is bottle-necking it a bit tbh? Could that be the case as the CPU isnt the strongest?

A lot of games will be perfect on your current cpu but other more demanding games only having 4 threads will be a problem especially big multiplayer games like battlefield.

What games do you play?

Battlefield 1, Far Cry 5, CS GO, PUBG etc...

Is it worth the upgrade? If so I will pull the trigger on a 7700 tonight..

Yeah I think the 7700 would be decent upgrade for them games.

If I had your board and graphics card I would stick a 7700 in there.

Thanks for the help mate. I have just ordered, can see what difference it makes, and can return if a problem / dont like it!

Will update once its in the system :)

Received the CPU this morning. Just installed it.

Quick question, even thought the TDP is the same as my 7500 (65W) it seems to idle / load a bit higher in temps? Is this because the extra threads / higher boost??

Just a quick question on my new 7700 temps?

I just finished a sesh of CS GO (now I know thats not a demanding game) but my temps are a little high..my GPU (RX 580) averaged about low 50c in CS:GO..but..my CPU averaged mid 60c :eek:

Do they seem OK temps? I havent played FC5, BF1 or PUBG etc yet, but imagine it will increase with those games? IS it likely to go through the roof for temps? What would the max "safe" / "ldeal" temps for this chip?

Also im using a Noctua NH-U9S 92mm cooler.

Well im guessing my temps are ok going by what youz have said. Thanks guys!

Will play some BF1 tomorrow and see. Cause the only thing worrying my was those temps weren't even really "taxing" the CPU (3-4 threads very very low usage?)

Also, my max usage on CS GO for the "overall" cores/threads were 57%, so im guessing that there is still a lot of headroom for performance if its currently in the 50's???

Hey guys,

Just finished a sesh of BF1. Played for around 30-40 minutes in 64 man MP. My temps when I quit were GPU - 60c avg. and the CPU - 70 avg.

Do they seem ok, im guessing there are not many games / game modes that would stress the system much higher for temps and usage etc..

Seems fine to me, 70c is nothing to worry about on the CPU and 60c certainly not with the GPU.

Great, thanks for the swift reply.

one issue though  my GPU has returned back down to an idle temp of 25c which it is around about. But the CPU is taking forever to go back down to 34c-35c ish and is hovering around 38c-40c?:confused:

Is that because there is still hot air etc .. for the GPU and what not, so will take longer to come down again?

Sorry about all the stress guys, im a bit of a paranoid android when it comes to my technology :p:p

Can someone please advise with my CPU idle / basic usage temps? Its around 37-38 at "near" idle, but it is super super hot ion my house atm?
