Iya,

Im currently running off a:
Intel P4 - 2.66ghz
512 Ram
Nvidia 7600 GS (AGP)

Basically, I bought the 7600 a couple of days ago to replace my mx440. After my x700 fried in the summer id been able to manage but the lure of dx9 games was too much.

Anyway, im not sure if this is normal but in terms of graphical capabilities my 7600 is performing on less of a level than my old x700. Ive installed the drivers from the Nvidia site but im at a loss as to why this card does not perform better than my old one.

Is this normal or do I have a problem?

well first of all, the 7600gs should spank that old x700. i've owned a 7600gs and it's quite a capable little card. so something is definitely up?

but also, i see you're running only 512mb of ram which is not good. but that still doesn't explain why the 7600gs is performing worse than the old card.

i assume everything is upto date? chipset drivers for your mobo? latest nvidia drivers? latest directx update (dec06)?

even though you had an nvidia card in there previously, it might be worth un-installing the nvidia drivers, running driver cleaner in safe mode and then back in normal windows, run the nvidia driver setup again. :)

and definitely sell your granny for some more ram. you'll thank me for it later. :D

Ah, I dont think I have the latest DX9 drivers. Didnt know there was a December release, cheers for the notification.

I would shell out on some new ram but come June im shelling out around 1.5k on a new pc which I can safely say, will be awesome.

Thanks for the help.

Well, I took the advice you gave me but theres still a problem. After I installed the drivers from the Nvidia site, I was prompted to restart my pc. I clicked yes and the end program box popped up with something called "should not see me" closing. Does anyone know whats up? Did I install the wrong drivers or something!?

just a thought, you might wanna check how much you AGP aperture size is set to in the BIOS, im guessing that the old cards were nothing more than 64/128mb, so if this card is 256mb + its gonna b under performing without the correct aperture going.

will be under advanced BIOS settings in BIOS matey.....have a ponder

it doesn't make much, if any difference. i had mine set to 64mb with my 512mb card and still broke 10k in 3dmark05. that's not bad for agp. :D

I've had that 'should not see me' on driver install before with no problems, wouldn't worry about it. Think it is left over from the coding of the drivers.
I have had to install the latest motherboard bios before to get new cards to work although this normally manifested as not working at all, rather than slow performance.
Have you checked that AGP is set to 'primary display device' in the bios ?
Have you used driver cleaner pro to uninstall the old ati drivers ?
