7600 GT agp Replacement?

I currently have quite an old system, limited to AGP cards.
The existing 7600gt's fan has started to be very loud, so I am hoping to get a new card.
Can anyone recommend an AGP card/s that would be of equal or greater power?

would this be a good card?
"256MB-ATI-X1950-PRO-AGP-GRAPHICS-VIDEO-CARD-X-1950PRO" or perhaps "Sapphire-ATi-HD3650-AGP-512MB-HD-3650-Graphics-Card"

Remove those links!

I'd start thinking about a system upgrade if I were you, you'll only end up paying a premium for an outdated card that'll suffer CPU bottlenecking...

im going to say this: if your limited on funds the common sense here would be to either replace the fan on your card or to re-lubricate it. it can be done since i have re-oiled many gfx card fans in the past including a 7600gs AGP card.

as for those people recommending a replacement cooler your probably unaware that the agp variant of the 7600gt comes with a agp bridge chip which usually is covered along with the stock core heatsink, only a very few versions of the cards had a dedicated bridge chip heatsink, so unless the OP has a card that uses a seperate bridge chip heatsink he wont be able to change the stock cooler.

heed my advice and just fix the fan on the card. all it takes is a few minutes and a few drops of johnsons baby oil (yes i used baby oil since i had no wd40 or castrol gtx magnatec at had when fixing the fan that day) fixed fan still runs with no issues.

I had a similar situation to you a few months ago. My Gainward 7600GT AGP fan was sounding really rough and rattly.

I just replaced the standard heatsink and fan with a Zalman VF900 kit. Dead easy to do and the card runs about 8'c cooler and is so much quieter now.

You can pick these kits up for about £20 ish.

ok, first things first, if you can post us a picture of what your gfx card looks like, need to see the type of cooler it uses. either way you will need to remove the cooler from the card and then depending on the type of cooler it is i should be able to guide you through the repair process.

is my card :)
thanks a bundle
I noticed the cooler things posted seemed to plug into the 4 pin motherboard fan ports but I do not have a free one.

excellent card you have there, it uses the seperate agp bridge chip heatsink which means you can change your stock cooler to a different one if need be.

now as someone posted above recommending the accelero s1 cooler to you i dont think it would fit since the bridge chip heatsink would be getting in the way of the heatpipes.

to re-oil your fan all you need to do is remove the heatsink which the fan is mounted in. it has 2 push plugs, the white ones, so you need to pinch the ends on the backside of the card and push them through to release the heatsink off the card. use pliers if you need to but i can usually get it done with my fingers.

when the heatsink comes off remember that you will need some thermal paste to replace the stock stuff wich is probably a thermal pad.

on the underside of the heatsink there will be some tiny screws, usually 3 screws, unscrew them and the fan will come off. (make sure you have unplugged the fan from its connector on the card).

now on the backside of the fan there will be a sticker, under that sticker is usually a sort of bung, can be easily removed using a small tiny screwdriver or a pin.

remove the bung stick some oil down there, rotate the fan, push fan up and down so oil goes all around the bearings and then put bung back on. the sticker which was originally there is probably lost its stickyness so clean the fan to make sure its dry and use some selotape or insulation tape to cover the bung.

stick fan back on to card and put it all together and it shoudl be running fine.

may need to do this every year since the oil tends to dry out on these fans,

sorry if this sounds rushed but i got to chip out for a while,. i will be back later on today and will check this thread so post more if you come across any issues.

Thanks a lot for the help, I appreciate it a lot.
I have never used oil or thermal paste, will any do?
edit, i see you used johnsons.

Thermal paste is the stuff you used between your CPU and it's cooler. Arctic Cooling do paste, you can get it from OcUK. Do NOT use WD40 because it is a poor lubricant.
