After playing half life 2 at the weekend i need a new gfx card in order to bump up the detail and smoothness..

Now I've got an Ati X300 at the moment as only built my system for virtual server etc. It's a Dual core 805D runnning at 3.3GHz with 2GB RAM. Now I don't think I'll go mad with games, but looking at these two cards. One's about £70 and the other is about £95. So the question is which on. The motherboard it'll sit in is a DS3.

Whether I can the board for a SLI board later on who knows as I've also got an AW8D in my cupboard at home.

get the 7600GT, higher core/memory speed, plus higher overclocking potential (slightly higher core voltage and better memory) :)

definately the GT, its just not worth getting a GS if unless you dont game and absoulutly can't afford the little bit extra for the GT.

I've been looking into this price range card lately and come the the full blow conclusion the 7600 GT is the clear winner for bang for buck for £80-£120 price mark.

It also needs no power rails so if you also need low power consumption due to a low end PSU its best in its class again i think.

Well I'm still mulling it as I'm only playing one game at the moment and it's Half Life 2, it's the only game I've got.. My X300 is coping just as I'm not running it at max.

How much better is that card, I don't want to break the bank as I don't know how much gaming I plan to do.

Core and mem speed on the 7600GT is higher and it tends to score higher in the benchmarks that I can remember. The only thing that the 7900GS has better is the 512mb instead of the 256mb. Go for the 7600GT. I got an AGP version and even that has massive overclocking capabilities. I went from 560 to 666 on the core and still stable.

I'm not sure how well the 7900GS overclocks but keep in mind that the 7600GT overlclocks to atleast 650/1550 and would be rivalling the 7900GS stock speeds for quite a bit cheaper. Maybe someone with a 7900GS can tell us how well they overclock?

I got a 7600GT about 4 weeks ago and I think it's ace. HL2, running smoothly maxxed at 1024x768. :D

I got the GT in the end, whether it's the right decision I don't know as I'm running half life 2 at 1280*1024 and it's not completely smooth... It's on a P4 805D @ 3.3GHz with 2GB RAM.

At 1280x1024 I never went under 40fps with all the settings maxed on the Lost Coast level. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

MMm is that including things like AA? I noticed you've got a higher spec'd systems
