Over here is a 7600GS with 256MB DDR2, over there is an X1650 Pro with 256MB DDR3. Am I going to see much difference between them on otherwise similar setups? I suspect the X1650 is going to be slightly ahead but I'd like confirmation to help me decide which to use where.

The nVidia is said to be about 5% faster and uses a tad less power. altho they both take power direct from the PCI-E slot only anyway.

With most games, they perform about the same, 3d mark scores will suggest the nVidia is miles better, this is because although the ATi can do filtering (esp. SM3) and higher resolutions without effecting performance as much, the nVidia gets more points from texturing.

They are both nativley available with silent cooling solutions by the way. if this does not matter to you then try the 7600gt vs. x1650xt, they both make a nice difference for an extra £20-£30.

Thanks. I'll leave the 7600GS in this PC then. It's actually the Leadtec that comes with a silent cooler but it ran too hot for my liking and I've replaced it with a Zalman VF700. The VF700 only needs to be run at 5V to keep the 7600GS cool and is as quiet as one could want.
