I just installed the above card in my friend's system and it's not playing nice! He went from a Radeon 9250 and I ran Drivercleaner a few times so no problems there with conflicts and it managed a run of both 3DMark 01 & 05 without any problems but he gets massive lag in COD2 and SupCom. The graphics are fine up to a point and then it just freezes up for about 5 seconds or so before it's useable again.

We tried running the built in benchmark in FEAR too and it got all the way to the bit where the room blows up before it totally froze for about 20 seconds or so. Then the FPS results came up and the PC turned itself off! I had a look at the PSU (his machine was made by TIME lol) and I think it's only 250W with what looks like 12A on the 12v rail  So I'm thinking here's our culprit but are the above problems symptomatic of the card not getting enough juice?

His spec is: 3200+ 754, 2 GB DDR400, HD, DVD, 2 case fans, floppy.

Heard of people having problems switching from ati to nvidia and only sorted by a clean install. Would definately try that 1st before buying new psu.

250w is a tad on the low side though.

The make of the gfx card, type of cooler fitted, more info please. ;) But tbh i would put money on that PSU not been upto the job, change it anyway as 250w is low regardless. 380w or 450w will do if he dont want to spend a lot. :)

C0D2 should be smooth with that card, try it on a clean install else he'll definatly need a new psu, my 6600GT couldn't cope on a 350 watt generic psu...

Supcom you wont get smooth on those specs anywhere but in dreams, it needs a dualcore cpu to handle anything more than 2 players and needs at least a 1950 pro like card to run W above 25 fps, I'm getting 20 average, sometimes drops to 10 (mainly in my base), on a 6800GS and a PD 925 @ 4ghz, that game is way too poorly coded for the hardware your mate has, he can play it, but he will need to stick to medium ish gfx settings and low unit limits ie 500 or 250 per player, and under all circumstances, not go play games with more than 5 ai's.

The sign that the pc turned off after fear definatly means a power shortage, go get him a good branded 350 watts or more ( i'd recommend near 400-450 watts) PSU.

I think I'd cry if I had that PSU.. :(
So would I lol :D Thanks for the input chaps, I've ordered him an Enermax 400W to replace his decrepid one so that should sort it out hopefully. I still think it's weird that it ran 3DMark 05 without any problems though but oh well.
