Morning all

These benchmarks have been run on a fresh install with all latest official drivers.

Abit AI7
P4 3.4 Northwood
1gb Infineon ram
7600GT
Ennermax 460w psu
Audigy 4

Now im sure there a bit on the low side

all stock settings

01. 18900
05. 5744

GPU Optimised 588/764
05. 6002

whats your opinion?

its your driver settings. go to the driver setup and make sure all sliders are set to performance. and enable all optimisations. at stock my card scored around 6.1k in 3dm05

nope just run 2 benchmarks first one set to performance manually and got 5745 2nd run set to quality and got 5411.

I dont think its my cpu holding it back even thou it isnt overclocked ad the GPU is idling at 48c

edit its AGP

IIRC 3DMark scores are made up of a pure CPU component as well as the 3D component - you'll notice the 2 tests in 05 that are run purely on the CPU. Hence if someone has a faster CPU they will get a higher 3DMark score.

Anyway, I have the 7600 GT AGP arriving tomorrow for my Dads PC and will be benchmarking it with 3DMark05 on a lowly P4 2.4 and also with the P4 o/c'ed to 2.8. If I remember I'll post the results here - that should show to what extent the 3DMark05 score with the 7600 GT AGP varies based on CPU horsepower.

There's only 2 project on ORB which match your specs, one around 5800 and one around 6000 pts. 5700 isn't that bad then. The AGP version of the 7600 GT could be a bit slower than the PCI-E one.

Also 3DMark projects don't show core/memory clock speeds for the 7600 GT for some reason, they're just shown as NA/NA so those projects could include overclocked cards, or it could be something else like they have ram with tighter timings, or quicker motherboards.

Its low only because p4s are bad for gaming

yea but a 3.4ghz p4 should be more than adequate, also 3dm05 scores don;t refelct cpu power like 06 scores do. this is an odd one but im bettings its a setting he is running. what rez are you running 3dmark05 at? i have seen some people with tft's run them at native rez during the test not knowing that that will impact the score since 05 is benched at 10x7

3.4ghz for a P4?
The score is right then because that isnt that good for gaming when compared to an AGP Athlon64.
I had a 6800 GT @ 425/1150 on a A64 3200+ & scored about 5800.
7600s are only a little better & considering its a P4 i'd say its spot on.

Well I run my desktop on 1280/1024 all the settings were set to performance with the optimizers turned on.

im pretty stumped! even if P4s arnt that good for gaming it should still hit the 6000 mark in my opinion.

i will have a fiddle with some drivers at some point but im giving up at the moment and just enjoying the performance increase from my 9800xt :)

as you see from my sig i'm getting 5500 or so from my P4 system, i have just installed a 3.20E GHz 1Meg cach HT P4 and will re-run benchies on '03 and '05 but my 01 score is already up to 18212!

3DMark05 - 4890 with 7600 GT AGP, P4 2.4 Northwood (533), 1.5 GB ddr333. With the P4 overclocked to 2.78 that goes up to 5250. Very nice card :)

I don't see what you're basing your opinion that your card is significantly underperforming on, it's only a hundred points down on an identical system on 3DMark05 ORB. 0.5 CL difference on ram could easily account for those 100 pts.

i didn't think that the p4 was so crippled when it came to gaming. i thought that his p4 running at 3.4ghz would be the same as my opteron running at 2.9ghz, the 500mhz advantage for his p4 should be enough to compensate for the low instructions per clock rate.

no because my CPU at stock 3200+ 2Ghz can keep up with at least a 3Ghz pentium 4, so it obviously does around 50% more instructions each clock cycle judging by that, so his pentium 4 would have be clocked at around 4Ghz to keep up with your opteron more or less ;)

Arrived today, Leadtek, AGP, working fine so far. Using 91.47 drivers.

I'm guessing you removed previous drivers properly (driver cleaner pro in safe mode after uninstalling etc)? Was it borked out of the box?
