7600gt install 5 beeps no signal

m8 upgtading his gfx had a 6600gt took it out put in 7600gt. but when he turns on there is no signal and he gets 5 beeps he sais. he has tried reseating it but to no avail and no extra power connectoters to plug in.

is pci-e and he sais his mb is a Asrock 93956-M

any ideas ?

It needs a power connector plugged in from the PSU as well id have thought, probs getting the 5x beeps as it hasn't got one connected.

EDIT : Read it again - As cob said the PCI-E 7600GT dosent need an external power source

its pci-e and there is no power connector thats the first thing i thought off.


he has a 500watt psu but a basic generic thing
he sais the fan does spin up on the card.
you think could still be a power thing ?

Tell him to try resetting the bios first. If that's the mobo I'm thinking of then it has both an AGP and a PCI-E slot and he might have set it to AGP instead of Auto.

500W should be plenty to run a 7600GT. My old 305W dell no-name PSU could run my AGP 7600GT that is supposed to use more power then the PCI-E version.
