Guys i have only had this card for 1 week, i have a feeling it is knackered, i am getting all sorts of screen corruption in rFactor (a racing car sim) and if i try to run 3dmark03 pro the screen eventually just goes all garbled the monitor then starts flashing on and off (Packard Bell Maestro 190w).

The card is an Asus EN7600GT/2DHTV, mobo is Asus A8N5X, 1 gig Corsair CMX512-3200LL Twinx.
OS Xp pro sp2, forceware 91.31.

As seen in this shot the card is at 65c, at idle it is usually at 45c.

This is what happened after i tried using 3dmark03 pro.

and when i tried to shut down, ended up just having to power down manually in the end.

Thanks in advance.

borked, looks like ram is either overheating or its just dead. rma it.

then again, it could be because of the current heat wave we are having. what are your case temps? and is the card overclocked in anyway?

Cyber my case temps are @ 25c, the card is new and not overclocked at all.

Reckon you may have just confirmed my worse fear.

looks like borked ram on that card.

also for curiostiy sake, take a look at the ram chips on that card, are they samsung or infineon?

im willing to bet that the ram on your card is samsung. if im correct that explains a lot of things and explains why the 7900gt cards are failing all the time.

all the 7900gt cards iv come across so far that have failed have had samsung memory. very suspicious.

my 7600gt has infinion memory so it may be different to yours.

Will have a look tomorrow, what difference does the make make.

it makes a bloody massive difference if my hunch is correct. for you the make could mean the difference between a card that works and a card that is doing what its doing in the screenshot you posted above.

some 7900gt cards are still running fine with samsung memory too, just that from news of all the cards that have failed so far i have not heard about any failing that use ram other than samsung. so could be dodgey batch or something.

but if the op can check his ram and post back, it could be a bit more insight into the story.

i think someone here mentioned that evga has changed the ram on its newer batch of 7900 cards and is now using a brand other than samsung.

Ok quick update, just checked the mem, now assuming i am looking at the right place(underside of the card) there are 2 black rectangles with Samsung written on them, so i guess i have the dreaded samsung chips.

Thankyou for your help so far Mav.

not sure where your looking at but you should have 4 memory chips on that card. here is a picture of what mine look like:

you can just make it out that the memory chips on my card are made by infineon.

Hi Mav

I ran some more tests with different drivers, the results where the same.
Well good news is got a replacement card already, i bought it locally took my pc around this am, they checked it out, then put another card in and everything was perfect, so turns out the card was borked after all, it was defo Sammy memory chips on it.

Bad news is they did not have the same card(Passive cooling) to replace, good news is they had one with a fan and also Infineon mem chips.

Thanks once again.

mine officially has four samsung 1.4ns, apparently leadtek have some home-brewed BIOS different from standard nvidia one, so im guessing the performance of the samsungs is something to do with leadteks design, only samsung memory i heard problems about is the ones on the 7900GT, im gutted to heard the first 7600GT on these forums has a problem, still reliable mind ;)
