7600GT powerfull enough?

hi all,

need a new graphics card and i was looking at the XFX XXX 7600GT which runs at 590/1600 and i was wondering if this card will be able to run BF2/Far cry with all eyecandy on at 1280x1024 and maybe even 1600x1200

You'd be able to run with the detail maxed, but I doubt you'd get 16xAF and 6xAA, especially at 1600x1200

it goes up to 16xAF and 6xAA on one card now, i was under the impression it went up to 8xAF and 4xAA

My X1800XT does 16AF and 6xAA, probably depends on the card

i run battlefield 2 at max details at 1600x1200 with 16xAF forced in the drivers. no AA and the game runs wonderfull.

Fear runs brilliant for me with all details at max but soft shadows turned off at 1280x960 with 2xAA and again 16xAF.

only games which really struggle at high resolutions are call of juarez, call of duty 2 and GRAW. those games i run at 1152x864, call of duty 2 runs with 2xaa and again 16xaf.

I think I underestimated the 7600GT, thats some pretty decent horsepower

you wouldn't think so if you played GRAW or call of juarez. both games at a resolution of 1152x864 need to have details turned down a bit, graw is not that bad but Call of juarez really takes the wee.

hopefully the new 7900gs iv ordered allows me to get some better gaming performance on those 2 games. everything else the 7600gt runs wonderfully. hehe been playing lego starwars 2 at 1600x1200 with 2xAA and again 16xAF. wonderful graphics i tell ya.

Blimey.. Mines at 660/840, most games can be maxed out in settings, but will have big issues with 16xAA, q4 for example, that will run amazingly at full settings 1280x1024 4xAA... 8xAA still says 60fps, but feels slightly slower, and 16xAA the fps drops to a constant 25-30fps

no, im not on about 16xAA (anti-aliasing) i always run 16xAF (anistropic Filtering). AF has much less performance impact than AA does.

cheers guys, im more interested in running 4xAA and no AF, i have never used AF as there is no option in BF2 i dont think, which is better to have on and just look on my 7300gs nview options and it only runs 8AF dont know if this is true to the 7600gts

Yes, unless you want a stutter-fest. The high textures setting in that game uses about 1.5GB+ RAM, so if you have 1GB then you are going to be whacking your paging file hard from accessing the disk.

if your gonna play battlefield 2 at a resolution like 1280x1024 i would run the 7600gt with 2xTMSAA and 16xAF, i always have 16xAF forced in the drivers so it runs 16xAF in every single game i have.

some people can get away with 4xAA but in a game like battlefield 2 you want high framerates so stick to the lower AA setting.

its a very good card for the price and if you get one that overclocks well you can get some very decent performance out of it.

the more you get on the memory overclock the better the card will perform at high resolutions or with AA slapped on.

stock memory speeds are 1400mhz, my card does 1730mhz on the ram fully stable, but since i hated using third party overclocking tools i put the slider at max in coolbits which leaves the ram at 1680mhz.

best thing is the card only sucks up 36w of power and still under 40w of power when over clocked. so its a very nice card.

will be selling mine real soon on the members market too

well im not forking out for the extra ram as the ram prices on ocuk have sky rocketed will 1gb run bf2 at 1600x1200 with 8AF

pfft, with BF2 I set my detail setting on medium just so I can load that bit faster and get to the chopper

always first or close to that in loading a map
