Surveyor is correct. There are more differences between the cards than the amount of vRAM including a different memory bus.

SLI: COMPATIBILITY
For some time, SLI was very specific in relation to the type of hardware that could be used. Cards had to be from the same manufacturer, have the same BIOS, same clock speeds; essentially identical. As driver complexity progressed, the limitations have been relaxed greatly. In order to clear up any remnants of confusion that may still linger, here are some pieces of information regarding the procedures for installing cards to be used in SLI: they must be from the same family and be the same model (GTX 560 Ti, GTX 295, 9800 GT, etc.) and must also have matching memory capacities. The cards do not have to be from the same manufacturer, have identical clock speeds, or have matching VGA BIOS versions. The rule used to be that the slower card had to be installed as the primary device, but this is no longer so; the graphics cards can be run asynchronously while in SLI without causing any negative effects in performance or frame constancy.

The simple fact is they are both gtx460 by name but are completely different cards which for some is confusing.
With nvidia the cards have to be the same in every detail spec wise except for memory and clock speeds in order to be compatibale for sli.

Needs testing I guess - as mentioned the 460 1gig and 768 are slightly different cards in several ways - and I've tested this combination once without it working, so I would guess its a general no but I've never tried it extensively whereas I've sucessfully managed to SLI 512Mb and 1gig 8800GT/9800GT in mixed pairs in the past and even accidentally managed an 8800GT 512MB with a 8800GS 384MB.
