Hi All,

Too long since my last post but am an frequent reader of these excellent and polite forums.

Looking for some advice / comments, current have a MSI Geforce GTX 770 Gaming Edition OC 2048MB which I'm very happy with but was considering upgrading to 970 or better and go to 1440p resolutions. With the nice deals on 770 at the moment and now reconsidering my options to go to 2 x 770 SLI but I have a few concerns which hopefully you can clearup:
  • Will 770 SLI give me good 1440p performance (let's say 40 - 50 fps)
  • Should I be worried about SLI configuration and drivers (seem to read a few horror stories sometimes)
  • Power requirements, I think I have Corsair 750W (not sure exact model series) this should be enough power I think?

Thanks for any advice,
Mark.

IMHO always go with the fastest single card you can afford, you avoid sli driver issues and the added heat from multiple cards. 2gb of vram and 1400p isn't ideal either. Sell you 770 and upgrade to newer tech :)

A pair of 4gb 770's would have been okay, I had a single 4gb MSI 770 gaming and it was a really nice card, Two of those would have been okay but like said 2gb's won't cut the mustard.

I wouldn't bother with SLI on 2GB 770's now. My 690 had to be retired not because it was too slow, but because it would run out of VRAM in most newer titles (at settings it could easily cut through).

This is my thinking also, have always preferred the single card approach for much the same reasons you have listed.

I'm not desperate to upgrade at the moment as my free time for gaming is extremely limited at the moment due to various other commitments so I will probably wait and see what happens to 970 / 980 prices.

you will generally need more than 2GB for 1440. Sell and upgrade, bit of a shame as the 770 is a nice card and otherwise would be grand.

I'm in a similar boat with my 760's, I'm putting off the resolution upgrade as long as possible, until I can get new cards and monitors together.
