Afternoon,

What kind of temps are you lot seeing on overclocked 7700k chips?

I've seen mixed reviews ranging from 70°C to 85°C on a range of tests (avx Occt, real bench, non avx prime etc).

We got 4.8 at 1.24v on my friends ix hero with temps in mid to high 70s on a custom loop. Seems kinda high.

Cheers

For the voltage used, that is high. Consider 1) Re-pasting or using a better compound / remounting the CPU block 2) delidding 3) get an inline temp sensor.

It's def Kaby Lake's thing is running hot. Delid time.

The three 7700k's I've tested all run toasty on a custom loop, no real temp difference on non-delided for medium 1.2's through to early 1.3's.

Although it may be worth checking your LLC with that voltage - is the 1.24 Vcore actual (HWInfo) or the level set in bios, as LLC depending on setting will increase the voltage.

I believe Kaby runs rather hot by default as stated by the OP, seen rather interesting resulting from deliding though (upto -20c).

Cheers for the replies.

Using Cpu-z the voltage was jumping up to 1.264v on llc 6. I tried dropping it to 4 which put me at 1.21 in cpuz but the system restarted at around 12mins of avx Occt. I'm at level 5 llc now and reading 1.232. Temps have dropped a touch. I've repasted the thermal grizzly that was originally applied with some noctua so I'll see how they are tomorrow.

These temps (high 70's) are on linpack avx occt which I believe does increase temps quite a lot. I'll get him to run non avx prime over night and see what we get.

Is HWinfo comparable to Cpu Z for volt monitoring?

I wouldn't use the Noctua paste to grease a helpless goat out of a fence. Thermal Grizzly should make a good impact if applied correctly.

Thermal grizzly one of the best compounds out there if not the best, even 8pack swears by it.
