7700k throttling

I have a ROG strix 270f with a 7700k overclocked(easy mode in bios just to try it out) @4987. Running a stress test (Prime or aida 64) temps hit 90plus and CPU occasionally throttles, but the rad and all the pipes, even the fittings on the CPU cooler (Eisblock) are stone cold. Back of motherboard fairly warm but everything else is cold.Rads a Mahelms360 Havoc.Temps are with HWmonitor and realtemp. Thermal paste is Thermal grizzly Kryonaut. Only drained and bled less than a month ago. Never had anything like this in 15 years watercooling. Got me stumped. I'm waiting on some new gear, thinking of de-lidding and liquid metalling 7700k to see if that helps. Any comments gratefully received.

you mention the rad, pipes and fitting are stone cold, that could be a classic sign of pump faliure, check in the bios under montering and check the pumps spinning, if the rmp seems low could be the pump starting to fail.
I have a 7600k overclocked to 5.1ghz using a corsair aio h105 and cpu hits 70 degrees 100% load in benchmarks and games the radiator and pipes all feel warm when it gets to that temprature.

hope this helps

p.s at idle the cpu should sit around 30-35 degrees in windows so if its anymore than that something is wrong (again check the pump)

When idling temps vary from high 30s but will suddenly jump to 60 then back down to 30s or 40s, very erratic.
Pump is monitored by CPU fan header roughly 3800 on a DDC with HKDIY circuit board. Rad is more restrictive so is Eisblock so speed is lower than usual, normally 4400 solid. It seems so eratic, wondered if motherboard mis reporting temps, or CPU.

If parts of your loop isn't getting warm at all I'd be shaking the case about to see if it dislodges any airbubbles, though if it was a month ago you drained and refilled by now they should have gone.

i also get the od spike upto 60 degrees but not very often, i have an asus maximus code IX and the monitering of the motherboad is pretty good with a diffrence of 1-2 degrees between aisuite and hwmoniter within windows, you could try installing the motherboard software and do a quick comparison, thing i'd suggest is to install a aircooler before deliding, if the cpu is still running hot on air you could have a duff cpu, you should be able to rma it but if you delid overclockers may not honour the warranty so you'll loose a chunk of cash.

if you think deliding will help then go ahead and i hope the cpu runs cooler, if it was up to me and the cpu is under warranty i'd return for a replacment

Sounds a bit like coolant flow, check you are getting good flow. Might also be worth checking the CPU vcore to make sure it isn't something crazy. I have a delidded 6700k and I don't use over 1.3 to get 4.5 temps are at 72C max.

If using easy mode, is that then auto voltage?

Maybe its just giving massive volts on ramp up to higher speeds?

Would explain the temp spikes but also the fact rest of the time it seems fine..
