(Title change) Searching for a good AMD 939 MOBO

Hi,

I just upgraded my graphics card (to Connect3d x1800xt) but it wont fit in my Compaq micro ATX mobo, the power connector gets in the way (its a canny long card). So i've decided to upgrade my mobo too.

So, any recommendations for a S775, DDR, PCI-E mobo - with SATA and onboard sound?

Thanks,
slinky.

haha, i certainly did!

i have a P4 550 3.4Ghz 800Mhx FSB - i'd rather not have to upgrade my processor as well.

i have DDR ram and again, id rather not have to upgrade - thats why i posted, i was having trouble finding DDR ones

thanks for the fast replys,
slinky.

thanks for the suggestion.

does anybody know if the Connect3D X1800XT 256 PCI-E fits the suggested mobo? - i can see the power connector isn't in the way but the grx card has a meaty HSF on it, and im worried about the chipset heatsink

thanks.

Well, having spent some time considering the small hole I seem to have got my self into, I've pretty much come to the decision of shelling out the extra money to replace the Mobo and CPU.

I'm looking to swap from Intel to AMD and i'm considering the AMD Athlon 64 3700+. How would this compare to my current CPU (P4 550 3.4GHz 800 FBS)?

Also, any suggestions on a good Mobo for this type of CPU. I'm pretty open to suggestions at this moment so long as it has PCI-E, SATA and DDR memory.

Thanks for the link, I'll have a look through and compare them.

As for the case, I allready upgraded my original compaq case a few weeks back to an Antec Lanboy case along with a new FSP Sparkle AX500-A Blue Storm 500W PSU.

Really, once I get the mobo and CPU upgraded then most of the original compaq will have been replaced.

Yep, I am sure never to buy a factory built PC again. Shame I never ventured out into building/modding my PC untill a few weeks ago, would have saved a lot of money in the long run. Oh well, live and learn.

Sorry if this sounds newby or the sort but do ASrock do AMD boards at all. I know Conroe is Intels new CPU but I really wan't to avoid buying another Intel CPU since it will mean upgrading my DDR RAM.

Since I don't wan't to be DDR 2 memory, trying to find a worthy Intel Mobo which supports DDR memory has proved hard, thus the reason why I wan't to change to an AMD CPU.

The board looks ok, but I'd really like to avoid another Micro ATX board. Besides, having thaught about it I'm going to go ahead and overhaul the original components of the compaq.

Keeping this in mind, anybody have any further recomendations for a 939 board to go with an AMD Pentium 64 3700? So far I've been looking at the, Asus A8R-MVP Crossfire and Asus A8R32-MVP Deluxe Crossfire. Any thaughts?

Thanks,

Slinky.

Thanks, I'm thinking about dropping the idea of getting an AMD Athlon 64 3700+, keeping my current P4 550 and instead upping my 1 Gig DDR to 2 GIG DDR2 and a then upgrading my MOBO. This way, I have the RAM upgrade to 2 gig, the MOBO upgrade to accomodate my new GFX and I can then have the possiblity to upgrade my P4 550 to a Conroe Dual Core at a later date when I have a little more finance since I no longer have the DDR restriction.

What do you think?

I'll certainly check them out and take into consideration what you have said about the B-Grade section.

Do you, or anyone else for that matter have any recomendations for a good Mother Board that will suit the needs I mentioned above?

As mentioned, the board should be Intel LGA775 , DDR2 compatable, SATA, PCI-E and able to support the latest Intel Core 2 processors to allow for future upgrade. My current CPU is a P4 550 which as mentioned I am looking to continue to use for a few months before possibly upgrading to a Dual Core CPU.

I myself have limited experience in the hunt for a good Mobo. Any additional experince that you guys might be able to offer me would be excellent. If you need any additional info then just ask!.

NOTE: Other system specs as follow:

Case is an Antec Lanboy
FSP Sparkle AX500-A Blue Storm 500W PSU
ATI X1800 XT 256mb gfx
MOBO will be going with 2 GB of Corsair DDR2 RAM.
P4 550 3.4 GHz 800 fbs

Hope this info helps some what and thanks for any assistance, you guys have been great!
